EAT YOUR HOMEWORK! WHAT?????

Do you like to create in the kitchen? Is the Food Network one of your go to channels? Are you a “Foodie?” Then the “Foods 10, 20, 30” course is for you. This “hands on” program allows students to learn the basics of food preparation, knife skills, measuring techniques, safe and sanitary food preparation and food presentation. The first module every student must take is Food Basic 1010, and this is the prerequisite for all subsequent modules. Each Module is 12- 15 classes, and students can expect to be in the kitchen labs cooking and baking a minimum of five labs. After plating and presenting their food product, students are welcome to eat their wares.  The most popular aspect of this course is the student’s independence in selecting their own recipes within the parameters of the module being taught.

In addition to the Foods Program are the additional projects offered in which students can earn extra credits by catering events such as awards evening, (exposure) film and media, color night (athletics banquet) and open house. As well, new to the program, is the “Food Truck Challenge” run by the Foods 20/30 students. All proceeds from this very popular event go directly to the “Stollery Children’s Hospital.” This year will be our second annual event, open to the entire student body and it is the “Tiger Takedown Culinary Challenge”, where any student can enter and win a spot in one of the seven food labs. Students then prepare and present to a panel of judges their unique food creations in order to win the “Tiger Takedown” culinary challenge medal.
