General Music (Guitar)
General Music 10 (3 credits) - Beginning Guitar
No prerequisite
General Music 10 is an introductory music class that focuses on guitar instruction with access to a variety of other instruments as well: drums, bass, piano, keyboards, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, etc. Students have access to an impressive collection of professional music equipment: Les Pauls, Stratocasters, Telecasters, Fretless Bass, Tube Amplifiers, pro recording gear, guitar effects and much more. By the end of this class, students who were complete beginners, consistently, are playing songs and have the skills to continue their music education. There is also an introduction to home recording techniques and electronic music production. A course fee will be charged.
General Music 20 (5 credits) - Continuing Guitar
Prerequisite: 50% in General Music 10
General Music 20 is an intermediate music class that continues the themes that begin in the 10 level course. Students will learn more advanced guitar techniques while learning songs from the guitar gods: Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Page, Slash, etc. The music theory at this level is designed to be specific to the guitar to allow for a deeper understanding of musical structures and improvisation. General Music 20 level also allows for much more dedicated access to recording equipment to work on original material; this is a real benefit for any aspiring songwriters. A course fee will be charged.
General Music 30 (5 credits) - Advanced Guitar
Prerequisite: 50% in General Music 20
General Music 30 is an advanced guitar instruction course that continues the themes from the 20 level course. The 30 level course expands to a 5 credit Fine Arts course that can be used for university entrance requirements. At this level, there is even more individual freedom with personal musical interests and exploration. Students will continue learning guitar techniques, music theory, music history, and home recording. Also, there is more of a focus on recording and technique at this level as well as some in class performance expectations. A course fee will be charged.
