The Black Gold School Division was proud to partner again with the Leduc Art Club for the 2024 Aspiring Young Artists’ Competition in June, to present a broad range of art created by talented grade 9 – 12 Black Gold students. The event also provided the Board of Trustees with an opportunity to purchase artworks from students for the Division’s permanent student art collection.

The trustees selected artworks from talented grade 12 students Julie Dakin and Sofia Bariak from Leduc Composite High School, and Maria Villa from Ohpaho Secondary School. The students were also recognized at the October 30, 2024, Regular Board Meeting.

“We felt that their talents shone brightly, and so their artwork has earned a place in the collection—a remarkable achievement that reflects the skill and artistic vision they bring to their practice,” said Board Chair Esther Eckert.

Turning to the young artists, she added, “Your images have captured perspectives and stories that resonate deeply, and by adding your work to the permanent collection, we’re honored to share your vision with others for years to come.”

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your hard work. We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to seeing how you continue to grow as artists and leaders in our community.”
