Cosmetology
This cosmetology program is designed to provide students with both the technical skills and theoretical knowledge needed for success in the beauty industry, as well as personal grooming practices. Students receive hands-on training in a variety of skills and salon safety while also developing professionalism and strong communication skills. Through guided practice in each umbrella course, students are prepared to build confidence, creativity, and readiness for entry into the beauty industry.
Cosmetology 10 (5 - 7 credits) Basics of Hairstyling
No prerequisite
Get ready to explore the exciting world of beauty through hands-on learning and creative expression. This introductory course combines the art and science of cosmetology with practical life skills, building your confidence and professionalism along the way. Whether you’re interested in a career in hairstyling or simply want to develop personal grooming skills, this course is for you!
You’ll learn foundational techniques in hair and skin care, including shampooing, blow-drying, basic styling, braiding, twisting, knots, and manicures. You’ll also gain insight into client care, hygiene, and the importance of teamwork in a salon environment.
Students are required to complete 6 of 7 modules not only as prerequisites, but also to ensure they gain the essential knowledge and skills necessary for success at the next level of the program.

Cosmetology 20 (10-12 credits) - scheduled for two blocks
Prerequisite: HSA 3900 Apprenticeship Safety, and at least 6 credits from Cos 10.
Cosmetology 20 is an Intermediate- level course designed to build upon the foundational skills developed in Cosmetology 10. These modules help students strengthen their technical abilities, explore broader career opportunities within the beauty industry, as well as being introduced to client services. Each module provides students with both theoretical and hands-on practice in a professional environment. Students will learn more advanced techniques including cutting, colouring, foiling, and perming, as well as the fundamentals of waxing, while continuing to refine basic techniques.
Students are required to complete 11 of 12 modules not only as prerequisites, but also to ensure they gain the essential knowledge and skills necessary for success at the next level of the program.

Cosmetology 30AB (10-11 credits) - scheduled for two blocks
Prerequisites: HSA3900, HSA3566, HSA3571, HSA3441, HSA3451, and at least 11 credits from Cos 20.
Cosmetology 30AB is an advanced-level course that supports students in refining the skills developed throughout Cosmetology 10 and 20. These modules focus on mastery of technique, professionalism, client services, and preparing students for real-world salon experiences and career readiness in the beauty industry.
Students will work on real clients 2–3 days per week, gaining valuable hands-on experience, building confidence, and enhancing their professional communication and technical skills.
Students are required to complete 10 of 11 modules not only as prerequisites, but also to ensure they gain the essential knowledge and skills necessary for success at the next level of the program.

Cosmetology 30C (10-12 credits) - scheduled for two blocks
Prerequisites: HSA3900, HSA3461, HSA3441, HSA3451, HSA3546, HSA3556, HSA3576, and at least 10 credits from Cos AB).
Cosmetology 30C is where students refine their advanced hairstyling techniques and gain deeper insight into the salon and beauty industry as a potential career path. This course builds on prior learning in Cosmetology 10 through 30AB, focusing on high-level technical skills, professionalism, and real-world client service.
The majority of the program is client-based, with students booked to work on clients 4 days a week. This is an exciting opportunity to gain confidence, develop artistry, and demonstrate readiness for the workforce or apprenticeship.

Upon successful completion of this program (Cos 10 - Cos 30C):
- Students may begin accumulating apprenticeship hours with a journeyperson at a registered salon.
- Students may be eligible to write their first period practical and written exam toward obtaining a provincial hairdressing license.
- Students may not need to attend private hair school if they pursue this route.
