Medical Services 10 (5 credits)

Medical Services 10 is designed to give students an understanding of their own personal health and wellness. Emphasized areas include human anatomy and physiology, diseases of the body, and current treatments in the medical field. For the body systems studied, the scope of coverage extends beyond that of Biology 20, and offers students with an interest in medical sciences the opportunity to increase their anatomical vocabulary and physiological knowledge. The body systems knowledge developed in Medical Services 10 is also an asset for students taking Biology 20.

Medical Services 20 is designed to give students an increased understanding of the anatomy and physiology of five of our body’s complex organ systems. For the body systems studied, the scope of coverage extends beyond that of Biology 20 and 30, and offers students with an interest in medical sciences the opportunity to increase their anatomical vocabulary and physiological knowledge. The body systems knowledge developed in Medical Services 20 is an asset for students currently taking, or planning to take Biology 30.

Medical Services 30 (5 credits)

Prerequisite: HSS1010

Note: You can register in this course as long as you have completed Medical Services 10.

Medical Services 30 is designed to help students continue developing their knowledge in anatomy and physiology, and integrates some of the social and psychological aspects of wellness. Integrating this additional focus guides students in further developing their understanding of a holistic approach to wellness and well-being. HCS 3150: Advances in Medical Technology is a project-based module that will allow students a large amount of freedom to research and report on areas of interest in the medical field including past, present and future medical trends; technologies and procedures currently available in care centres; and the scope of use and socio-emotional impacts of current technologies. In addition to providing foundational skills and competencies to prepare students for a career in the medical field, the knowledge developed in HCS 3050: Reproduction and Readiness for Parenting is an asset for students intending to take Biology 30.
