Fitness and Sport Medicine is a participation-based  course geared towards individuals interested in working in the following athletic fields: 

  • Athletic Trainer
  • Physiotherapy 
  • Personal Trainer

Fitness and Sport Medicine 20 (5 credits)

Prerequisites: HSS1010, HCS1050
Note: These are offered in Medical Services 10, but can also be done in module work concurrently while taking Fitness and Sport Medicine 20.

This course delves into the world of sports medicine and first aid. Students become familiar with first aid supplies and how to treat common injuries that may occur during sports or recreational activities. A course fee will be charged.

Possible Certifications through Sport Medicine Council of Alberta: 

  • Athletic Injury Management Certificate of Achievement
  • Sport Taping & Strapping Certificate of Achievement

 Fitness and Sport Medicine 30 (5 credits)

Students will learn how muscles and bones work together, understanding the musculoskeletal system. Students will gain insights into the principles of training and conditioning, helping you design effective workout routines. The course also explores the principles of fitness leadership by learning to guide a group through exercises with different focuses, tailoring classes to the needs and interests of the participants. A course fee will be charged.

All courses in Fitness and Sport Medicine 30 can be used to apply to postsecondary programs; such as Bachelor of Kinesiology at the U of A.
